For my nineteenth birthday, the original plan was to abroad and have a mental week away with the lads. But a couple of my mates didn’t have enough money to join us and we didn’t want to leave them out- we either go full crew, or no crew at all. So, we started looking at the best ways to celebrate my birthday without leaving the country. We had a night out planned for the evening, but I needed to spend the whole day in style, not just when the sun goes down.
Not long after, my dad told me he was thinking about treating me to a paintball session as part of my birthday presents. I called my mates immediately to make sure we could all get down there- my dad booked the place for all of us at the site and within the space of a few minutes, my birthday plans were sorted. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day. No matter how old I get, I’ll never tire of shooting my mates with endless rounds of paint.
When my birthday arrived, I woke up early as I could- I felt like a big kid, I was that excited to get down there and take part in all of the paintball games for myself. I found out when I got there that most of my mates felt the same way; we were that eager to play paintball, we were like kids on Christmas morning, eager to get up as soon as possible to unwrap our presents. We’d all been paintballing before, so knew exactly what to expect from the experience: but that didn’t make us feel any less excited.
The staff on site were all a good laugh and loved taking part in banter with us before the games began. But as soon as the games started, there was no laughing or joking around- I’m not embarrassed to say that we got so into the challenges, we felt like we really in a war zone. Every one of the games was an absolute blast and we didn’t have a single dull moment the entire time we were there. I think I need to celebrate all of my birthdays like this from now on!
